Cooking classes are suitable for any guest interested in experiencing firsthand the regional culture, family traditions of the highlands, and the use of ancient cooking tools in an informal and friendly atmosphere. These fun cooking classes are taught by our chef, who will share culinary secrets and local techniques, providing an authentic source of inspiration.
We will take a journey through the history of the most representative crops of the Americas, as well as the fusion between the two continents: Europe and America. At the same time, we will learn about the process and proper use of ancient cooking tools.
The class begins with a lesson on how to prepare the famous cheese empanadas, followed by the process of making ají. Ají or chili sauce is an essential element of Ecuadorian cuisine. The recipe varies from home to home. Here at Hacienda El Porvenir, you will learn the traditional recipe, using a stone mortar and various herbs and spices as seasoning. Finally, we will learn to prepare delicious canelazos, a typical hot drink served during celebrations in the Ecuadorian highlands. At the end of the class, participants will enjoy the food they have prepared by the warmth of the fireplace.
