Inspired by the mountain culture of the Andes and its volcanic surroundings, APU Mountain Spa has developed a series of treatments to enhance the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of our guests.
Located at Hacienda El Porvenir and surrounded by a peaceful environment, the spa offers two massage rooms and a wet area with three tubs (one jacuzzi and two tubs with volcanic spring water). Our temazcal, heated by volcanic stones, adds to this experience by providing an exceptional opportunity to detoxify, purify, and connect with Mother Earth.

APU Mountain Spa is dedicated to reconnecting with nature, where the energy of the four elements—fire, earth, water, and air—interacts in our Andean spa. There's nothing better than enjoying a massage followed by unwinding in the jacuzzis. The spa features a traditional fireplace that allows you to feel the warmth on your skin. What makes the spa truly unique is its use of plants and ingredients sourced from nine local volcanoes, offering wellness and health benefits.
Temazcal
Temazcal translates to "house of hot stones." Tlazolteotl, the Mother Earth, is considered the goddess of the temazcal, believed to devour what no longer serves us, transforming it into fertile earth and new life. Within the temazcal, the womb of the earth, steam induces sweating to eliminate toxins from our bodies; the temazcal absorbs and transforms them into renewed energy, ready to nourish new life.
Purifying ourselves within the temazcal extends beyond the physical; it also cleanses the spirit through the words we speak and negative thoughts we release. The temazcal devours destructive thoughts and emotions, transforming them into fertile soil for our personal rebirth.
Temazcal therapy involves inducing sweat through medicinal steam. The vapor is created by herbal water contacting red-hot volcanic stones. Each carefully selected herb from the region offers distinct medicinal properties; for instance, chamomile cleanses the eyes and aids digestion, while eucalyptus combats respiratory ailments. Other local plants like matico and chuquirahua are also utilized.
This ritual promotes relaxation, cleanses the skin, purifies the body, strengthens the heart, detoxifies the blood, and prevents illness. It opens the mind, enhances perception, and fosters healthy connections with family and community, as believed by ancient Andean cultures.
