Our history
The history of Hacienda El Porvenir dates back to the colonial era. This territory, previously known as ‘Pedregal’, was under the control of the Jesuits. In this area, the Jesuits were engaged in sheep farming and later in cattle ranching. Five generations ago, in 1913, the old El Porvenir farm was sold to the Gangotena Escudero family, who have maintained it ever since.
More recently, Hacienda El Porvenir has become known for its “Pedregal – Tambo” fighting bulls, owned by Arturo Gangotena Escudero. The hacienda is currently owned by the Pérez Gangotena family, who decided to open it to visitors in 1999 to share the magic and charm of this beautiful place with adventurers from all over.
A project born from sustainability
It’s always a good time to visit El Porvenir! We are open year-round. Ecuador is known for its eternal spring. Being located on the equator, we experience two seasons: the green season or winter (October – May), characterized by frequent morning rains and cloudy skies, and the dry season or summer (late June – September), featuring clear blue skies and strong winds. Mountain weather is unpredictable; within the same day, you may experience snow, heat, rain, and wind.

Connectivity
We have limited internet access in our social areas. The suites and traditional hacienda rooms have limited WiFi. There is no cellphone signal in the area.
A working hacienda
The hacienda is dedicated to sustainable agriculture, cattle breeding, conservation, and ecotourism. We produce milk, make cheese, and cultivate various vegetables and herbs for our kitchen. The farm serves as a meeting point for cultures, traditions, and legends.
