How to get there
Hacienda El Porvenir is located just an hour and a half from Quito, and 4 km from the northern entrance of Cotopaxi National Park.

To get to the hacienda, you should use Google Maps. If you use Waze or another application, it will take you on an incorrect route.
From Quito by bus
To get to El Porvenir by bus, first go to the Quitumbe Bus Terminal, located in the south of Quito. You can reach the terminal by taxi (approximately +/- $15) or by taking the Ecovía E2 circuit towards Quitumbe (a metro-like transportation system). Once at the Quitumbe Terminal, take a bus heading to the city of Machachi.
The bus journey takes approximately an hour and a half.
Ask the driver to drop you off at Machachi Park. From there, you can rent a green and white van and instruct the driver to take you to Hacienda El Porvenir near Los Mortiños.
The cost of renting the vans is approximately $25.
Another option to get from Machachi Park is to take García Moreno and Nueva España streets. At the corner of this intersection, you will find a yellow metal sculpture where you can wait for the bus heading towards El Pedregal. There are two buses in the morning and one in the afternoon. Ask the driver to drop you off at the “Y” intersection in Pedregal. From there, take the road on the right and walk approximately 1 km on the right-hand side of the road. You will reach Hacienda El Porvenir. This walk takes about 20 minutes.
From Quito by car
To leave Quito for Machachi, take the Pan-American Highway. Upon reaching Machachi, enter the central park area where the church is located. At the traffic light near the SuFarmacia Pharmacy, which has a large orange sign, you will see signs indicating the road towards the northern entrance of Cotopaxi National Park. Follow García Moreno Street, an asphalt road, for approximately 2 km.
After that, you will have 3 km of cobblestone road, and then the road becomes paved again until you reach the town of El Pedregal (21 km from Machachi or a 40-minute drive from Machachi).
On the way, you will see a black gate with stone pillars. This place is not Hacienda El Porvenir, so please continue following the signs for Hacienda El Porvenir by Tierra del Volcán, which are located on the left side of the road.
Upon reaching the town of El Pedregal, you will encounter a “Y” intersection with several signs. Take the right-hand road following the signs for Hacienda El Porvenir by Tierra del Volcán, which is a gravel road. This is the same route to the entrance of the northern control of Cotopaxi National Park. About a kilometer from the “Y” junction, you will see a sign on wooden logs that says Tierra del Volcán, indicating you have arrived at Hacienda El Porvenir.
